I swear the ickiness just loves us. I'm not feeling great and am beyond thankful John stayed home today. So, yet another short and sweet post focused on the silliness that is Zach.
He is beyond helpful.
He beat me down the stairs and I about had a heart attack thinking the door to the basement was open and he would go down those steps. Nope, mom, this is way better. Clearly he beat me by quite a bit as Oliver's dish was overflowing, 10 pieces of dog food at a time. He's telling Oliver to 'go'. Where are his pants you ask? There is a chance he went to bed w/o them the night before. Just a chance.
Then there is what John calls the Auntie Kim influence. I'm not sold, I think it's the Signing Times influence.
Yes, my kids do wear clothes. Tonight's dinner was a taco soup quesadilla (with sour cream, clearly), hence our removing of their clothes for dinner.
John thinks this is from Auntie teaching them to rub their lotion hands together. I think they are relating it to washing their hands. Kim is safe because they didn't put any on their legs, which is where lotion goes. In their minds at least. I wonder if the official ASL sign for lotion is rubbing your hands up and down your thighs?
And we ended our night swimming in our ball pit. I have video. I was going to post it, but then thought 'if I have to get confirmation from John re: whether it was ok or not, then no'. Sorry. It was after dinner so the kiddos are just in their diapers. Innocent to me and probably you, but I'm posting to the Internet where things go to live forever. It occurred to me if I have any hesitation I shouldn't proceed, so I'm not. I will say he loved it. He also loved tossing over half the balls through the hole in the back onto the carpet.
Zach is a total goof. And the sweetest boy you'll ever meet. He definitely completes our trio of fabulousness.
Loves.

Unconventional eating. It happens.
Let me begin by sharing how my day started. Many of you have already seen this, but I'm sharing again.

That is my trio wanting to color. Enjoying life after eating breakfast. All things I had not experienced for days. Of course, dad came home tonight so, Murphy's Law, they feel just fine now.
We also enjoyed this
All I can say here is ugh. It was all melted again by this evening, but the constant re-covering of snow means nothing new is melting, just the same patches over and over. :/
But...on to tonight's post. I totally do things John would not. However, tonight at dinner I adopted the John way...leading to the Steph way in the extreme.
The John way of dinner was that once the kids really started goofing off I called time. Before they were necessarily done I had enough. Katie and Addie were moving noodles between plates 50,000 times, kids were reaching for stuff on the table, dropping forks, etc. once I caught them feeding dogs - DONE. Zach lost it crying for his food. I'm not one to harm my children. He was clearly still hungry, so I did give him his plate back. He ate sitting in his chair like a very well behaved boy. Once he was done we moved into the Steph phase.
What exactly is that? Well, let me show you.

Unconventional eating at its finest.

Zach is standing on one of his chairs eating olives from the can. At the counter. And see that pepper there? It wasn't safe either.

Clearly, my dinner wasn't enough.

Noodles with veggies and plain bread did not cut it. In my defense I'm still worried their tummies will rebel again.
So have you noticed who was trying to join him yet? That's right. Others thought Zach had a grand idea. Leading us to this.

My trio ate half a big can of sliced olives and half a red pepper while standing on their chairs, at the counter, AFTER DINNER.
That's how I let them roll.
Loves!
Ps - by all appearances they are recovered. John will still cover me for a bit in the am then I'll feel guilty I'm sure. Given I'm awake.

Dr appt
The quick and the dirty.
Katie 20lb 12oz
Zach 20lb 9oz
Addie 21lb 3oz
Their weights are small due to their vomit fest. We all expect them to shoot back up when they can eat again. They are maintaining their respective percentages, so no worries.
The only changes we have to make are using fluoride toothpaste - a little smear safe for swallowing. Our water is not fluoridated and they need a small amt for their teeth so she said toothpaste is the best way to provide it as it's direct to their teeth. I asked about vitamins, she said vit D is the most important. The other vitamins in a gummy will neither help nor hurt, but I found bogo chewy vit d kids vitamins so I got those. Zach LOVES them (think meltdown tears when he couldn't just eat then all). Addie tasted and tried to give it back to me. Haha.
Short, sweet. Hope to have some better posts next week when I get some emotional, physical, mental relief. Less than 24 hours now...and I already asked John to take Monday off. Yes, it is that bad here. If nothing else I will sleep in and he can go in late, but only if our children are well.
loves from a defeated mommy.

What else ya got?
Because really, I can take it. Proof being that I made it through today. Possibly one of the longest, worst circumstances day of my life. Not just life since littles. Life.
We begin with:

Can you say not a typical Katie pose. Meaning she felt horrible. As did the other two. It seems a week of puking, diarrhea, and general ickiness does not agree with them. Imagine that.
Contrary to many pictures posted this week, this is NOT usually a common sight in our house.

Ok, wait, this is a common sight, but it's usually John.
As you can imagine, I actually appreciated the fact we had a dr appt today. I mean c'mon, really??

It may seem Zach was just playing, but no. So we left for the dr early. The littles slept. All was good.
Dr appt - well, I'll save that for tomorrow. I'm too mentally and emotionally drained to recap it tonight. All is good, info to follow.
Post dr appt I had to make a quick run to Fred's. We were out of pedialyte, I wanted to try Gatorade with them, needed more infant meds..you get the picture. Fred's is about 5 minutes from the dr. As I pulled into my parking space I almost started crying. Why? See for yourself.

That my lovely friends is puke. I can still smell it hours later. Puke. All. Over.
It took this, but finally hubby feels for me ('scuse his language, but it was appropriate).

So after many wipes, a change of clothes, etc. we went shopping. Like this.

I shopped like I was John in a Walmart! Speed racer!!
So I'm exhausted. I'm still near tears. But I'm pretty sure that anything you can come up with to throw at me...I can take it. Now, can you just trust me on that and not actually test it out? It'd be much appreciated.
Loves blah.

Our latest trouble
The trio is becoming more and more aware of what is and isn't supposed to happen in our house. For the past few months they have been tattle tales. Meaning if something was going on that shouldn't be and that we couldn't see you would hear someone protesting and see them pointing at the offending action. But, the times they are a'changing. Now, instead of just "ah-ah-ah-ah" and pointing, they take charge to rectify the situation. For instance, the kids know the dogs are not supposed to be on the couch. However, the dogs love getting on the couch to look out the window. So, the other day when Zach saw both dogs on the back of the couch, we walked over next to them patting Oliver on the hind quarters saying "no, no, no, no" Of course the dogs do not listen to him (mind you they barely listen to me), but it still alerts me to a problem I may not have seen so I can take care of it. And he was very proud of himself.
Today, Katie was the one to alert me to a problem. Mind you, I heard the commotion, just didn't realize it wasn't being made for the simple fun of making a commotion. Crazy, but it does happen. As she came up to me, tapped me on the hip, and walked away pointing...I followed. This is what I found:
Zach is obsessed with closing the gate lately. Unfortunately, he is not always on the correct side of the gate. Katie was very concerned that he was on the wrong side. The commotion was Zach acting like he was in jail, banging the gate back and forth. Silly boy.
He is very patient waiting for Mom to get her camera and take pics though.
And LOOK WHO WAS WITH HIM! It's like he knew Oliver was still upstairs so he wanted to wait for him. He thought it was too funny they were both stuck.
A boy and his dog. I just know Zach is saying "don't worry, Oliver, I'll get you out".
"Uhh, Mom...are you ever going to let us out of here? I just know someone could use a new diaper".
Yes, I did let them out. Of course, once I opened the gate he just wanted to shut it again. It took some cajoling to convince him to walk through the gate before closing it. And lest you think he is the only culprit...poor Addie tries to close the gate before walking up the stairs. Only problem with that is that there are only a few inches between the gate and the first step. Not quite enough room for her to really close the gate AND start up the steps at the same time. She's determined to figure it out though.

BADM Oops #1
What exactly is BADM?? Blog a day in May. Why Oops #1? Well, it's May 2 and I already forgot to add a blog post yesterday. I am sure this may happen again this month, hence the #1. Should we take bets on how often this will happen? Let's see how low I can keep the oops number. I'm not going to challenge myself to any set number of oopsies though, as I'm already challenging myself to blog for 31 days in a row!
Why in the world would I challenge myself to this? I know I want to record the lives of the trio more than I already am. I know I want to start using this blog more. All elements come together in a grand plan! Couldn't be more perfect. And, even better by choosing this month you will get to follow us through a crazy changing spring.
Where we are at the beginning of the month:
~ Still living in Fort Greely. You know, that place that when we moved here we said it was for a year or two. Well, SEVEN years later we are still here!! Yowza. We will be looking for change soon. This house is very quickly becoming too small for our family of 2+3+2. This winter was very taxing on us both. Where will all these "something needs to change" thoughts take us?? Hmmmmm.
~ The kids will be 22 months next week. We are going for the 18 month well child check tomorrow. The timing couldn't be better as all three have been sick. Addie seems to take colds the best, and tummy sickness the worst. If we didn't already have an appointment tomorrow we'd be taking her in anyway. While Auntie Kim was visiting we weighed the kids. We estimate their weights to be 21, 22, and 23 pounds (Addie, Kate, Zach). It will be interesting to see how close we were tomorrow.
~ Developmentally our kids are doing pretty darn great. We are still dealing with the swoop. Zach's is maybe worse while the girls just keep on with their regular inserts. More on that later. If I have to blog for 31 days I can't give you all the updates now. ;) Speech is a concern for me with Katie. Zach and Addie are starting to talk up a storm. Katie is my quiet girl who prefers to sign. Otherwise they are developmentally on track. I expect them to take off with their learning as summer appears and they get out of the confines of the living room.
So. That is where we are now. Where will we be at the end of the month? Who knows! It will be fun to get there together though. Until then, here is a pic of the trio at Easter.
