What else ya got?

Because really, I can take it. Proof being that I made it through today. Possibly one of the longest, worst circumstances day of my life. Not just life since littles. Life.

We begin with:

Can you say not a typical Katie pose. Meaning she felt horrible. As did the other two. It seems a week of puking, diarrhea, and general ickiness does not agree with them. Imagine that.

Contrary to many pictures posted this week, this is NOT usually a common sight in our house.

Ok, wait, this is a common sight, but it's usually John.
As you can imagine, I actually appreciated the fact we had a dr appt today. I mean c'mon, really??

It may seem Zach was just playing, but no. So we left for the dr early. The littles slept. All was good.

Dr appt - well, I'll save that for tomorrow. I'm too mentally and emotionally drained to recap it tonight. All is good, info to follow.

Post dr appt I had to make a quick run to Fred's. We were out of pedialyte, I wanted to try Gatorade with them, needed more infant meds..you get the picture. Fred's is about 5 minutes from the dr. As I pulled into my parking space I almost started crying. Why? See for yourself.

That my lovely friends is puke. I can still smell it hours later. Puke. All. Over.

It took this, but finally hubby feels for me ('scuse his language, but it was appropriate).

So after many wipes, a change of clothes, etc. we went shopping. Like this.

I shopped like I was John in a Walmart! Speed racer!!

So I'm exhausted. I'm still near tears. But I'm pretty sure that anything you can come up with to throw at me...I can take it. Now, can you just trust me on that and not actually test it out? It'd be much appreciated.

Our latest trouble

The trio is becoming more and more aware of what is and isn't supposed to happen in our house. For the past few months they have been tattle tales.  Meaning if something was going on that shouldn't be and that we couldn't see you would hear someone protesting and see them pointing at the offending action.  But, the times they are a'changing.  Now, instead of just "ah-ah-ah-ah" and pointing, they take charge to rectify the situation. For instance, the kids know the dogs are not supposed to be on the couch.  However, the dogs love getting on the couch to look out the window.  So, the other day when Zach saw both dogs on the back of the couch, we walked over next to them patting Oliver on the hind quarters saying "no, no, no, no"  Of course the dogs do not listen to him (mind you they barely listen to me), but it still alerts me to a problem I may not have seen so I can take care of it.  And he was very proud of himself.

Today, Katie was the one to alert me to a problem.  Mind you, I heard the commotion, just didn't realize it wasn't being made for the simple fun of making a commotion.  Crazy, but it does happen.  As she came up to me, tapped me on the hip, and walked away pointing...I followed.  This is what I found:

Zach is obsessed with closing the gate lately.  Unfortunately, he is not always on the correct side of the gate.  Katie was very concerned that he was on the wrong side.  The commotion was Zach acting like he was in jail, banging the gate back and forth.  Silly boy.

He is very patient waiting for Mom to get her camera and take pics though.

And LOOK WHO WAS WITH HIM!  It's like he knew Oliver was still upstairs so he wanted to wait for him.  He thought it was too funny they were both stuck.

A boy and his dog.  I just know Zach is saying "don't worry, Oliver, I'll get you out".

"Uhh, Mom...are you ever going to let us out of here?  I just know someone could use a new diaper".

Yes, I did let them out.  Of course, once I opened the gate he just wanted to shut it again.  It took some cajoling to convince him to walk through the gate before closing it. And lest you think he is the only culprit...poor Addie tries to close the gate before walking up the stairs.  Only problem with that is that there are only a few inches between the gate and the first step.  Not quite enough room for her to really close the gate AND start up the steps at the same time.  She's determined to figure it out though.

BADM Oops #1

What exactly is BADM??  Blog a day in May.  Why Oops #1?  Well, it's May 2 and I already forgot to add a blog post yesterday.  I am sure this may happen again this month, hence the #1.  Should we take bets on how often this will happen?  Let's see how low I can keep the oops number.  I'm not going to challenge myself to any set number of oopsies though, as I'm already challenging myself to blog for 31 days in a row!

Why in the world would I challenge myself to this?  I know I want to record the lives of the trio more than I already am.  I know I want to start using this blog more.  All elements come together in a grand plan!  Couldn't be more perfect.  And, even better by choosing this month you will get to follow us through a crazy changing spring.

Where we are at the beginning of the month:
~ Still living in Fort Greely.  You know, that place that when we moved here we said it was for a year or two.  Well, SEVEN years later we are still here!!  Yowza.  We will be looking for change soon.  This house is very quickly becoming too small for our family of 2+3+2.  This winter was very taxing on us both.  Where will all these "something needs to change" thoughts take us??  Hmmmmm.

~ The kids will be 22 months next week.  We are going for the 18 month well child check tomorrow.  The timing couldn't be better as all three have been sick.  Addie seems to take colds the best, and tummy sickness the worst.  If we didn't already have an appointment tomorrow we'd be taking her in anyway.  While Auntie Kim was visiting we weighed the kids.  We estimate their weights to be 21, 22, and 23 pounds (Addie, Kate, Zach).  It will be interesting to see how close we were tomorrow.

~ Developmentally our kids are doing pretty darn great.  We are still dealing with the swoop.  Zach's is maybe worse while the girls just keep on with their regular inserts.  More on that later.  If I have to blog for 31 days I can't give you all the updates now. ;)  Speech is a concern for me with Katie.  Zach and Addie are starting to talk up a storm.  Katie is my quiet girl who prefers to sign.  Otherwise they are developmentally on track.  I expect them to take off with their learning as summer appears and they get out of the confines of the living room.

So.  That is where we are now.  Where will we be at the end of the month? Who knows!  It will be fun to get there together though.  Until then, here is a pic of the trio at Easter.

Indoctrination

I was taking some video of the trio talking today. They have a full developmental eval later this week. Speech is a possible concern and I'm afraid they won't talk in front of strangers, so I want to bring some video of what we see/hear. So note, my first item to share began as video of just their words...but ends with a clear failure of the indoctrination I also began this morning.

YouTube Video

Did you catch it? My brainwashing? A clear failure at this point. "Who's the boss of the house?" Ummm, da-da? Katie? Huge sigh!
But have no fear, by dinner time I had them on the right track!

Well, 2 out of 3 anyhow.

Ahh, that Katie. You gotta love her. Because, you know, she's the boss of the house. She says so!!

Oh my, WORDS!

Oh my, I think we are trying to talk!  Peanut is the one trying the hardest it seems.  Now, you may think I'm pushing it, but I count mama, dada, hat, book, and thank you as her true-hearted attempts.  What?  Is that a word?  Well, it is for her.  It means she is really trying, just doesn't have all the consonant sounds yet.  It's mostly a vowel sound for now, but she's trying.

How many of you are thoroughly confused?  Didn't I post a pic on FB and say that was going to be my blog post?  Yes, yes I did.  This pic in fact.

Why is this baby doll the bane of my existence?  Cute huh?  Yep, I thought so too.  Especially for $2.99.  But, see that damn cute hat?  I put that hat on the babies head 50,000,000 times a day!  The kids laugh and laugh as they pull the hat off and hand me to doll.  Lucky me, they have even learned the sign for hat, so when they hand me to doll sometimes they even sign what they want, HAT!

Along with that baby doll, the trio also received soft, fake food from Ikea.  There was a veggie basket, fruit basket, and breakfast on a cutting board (complete with mini knife!).  Are you confused again?  Wasn't I talking about words, then dolls, now food?  Trust me, it is all tied together.  How?  Let me show you.

Fruit basket: yes, this does make a basket.  The "handle" velcros to the other side.

The veggie basket:

Veggie basket, take 2:

What the what?  Yep.  Late Christmas afternoon I believe is when we first found Zach wearing his new "hat".  It is so cute.  The kids don't use them as baskets unless I'm playing with them and encouraging them to select foods to put inside.  If it is up to them, baskets = hats.

And speaking of hats...and speaking...did I tell you I think Addie is trying to talk?  Here is her rendition. Forgive the less than professional videos.  Parents of triplets here people!

Here is take 2: (peanut can be a little cra-zy sometimes, haha)

And here is Zach:

Note, the sign for hat is patting your head.  My kids already patted their head when I would say "head" when doing body parts, so it was easy for them. When I use signs, I say the word with it.  I think this is why Addie is starting to do the same.  She says "da" when she does the thank you sign, so I'm trying to teach her "Danka".  :)

So that is my crazy, seemingly fractured but really pulled together blog post.  Dolls, words, videos, hats...what?  Doesn't it make sense to you?  What?  Still it doesn't??  Ah well, it does to me!  :)

Welcome 2013

Seeing as how Christmas was yesterday, this whole holiday season seems off to me. And it seems truly crazy to stay up until midnight when I'll have to get up with the kids in the am. I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet. No resolutions, just short term goals for now.

Goal 1: diet and weight
I just created a my fitness pal account. I'm not concerned with losing weight right now, or rather with that being my goal. My goal is to honestly track my eating and strive for the 3/week workouts I put in my profile. I hope to be fully on board with both of those by the end of January so I can then create a small weight loss goal.

Goal 2: keep up with blogging
I try. I honestly try. I need to get my energy back so I'm not completely drained at the end of the night. Then just DO it. Hopefully Mom and Kim can attest (after their recent visits) that it is not as easy as it sounds.

Goal 3: use technology more meaningfully
My kids are becoming more and more aware. I want to use technology for more than Facebook, although that is a valid social outlet for me. To aide this goal I joined a fb book club. I've even participated in last months, and this months readings/discussions. For those wondering how this helps me do more than fb, I'm using my technology for reading rather than mindless games and such. :) I also hope to possibly join the local book club. We'll see.

Goal 4: get my kids a'talkin!
Remember, these are short term goals. My kids do not talk at all yet. AT. ALL. If really really pushed they will say mama or dada and Zach can toss out the 'boo' for book (pronounced w/o the k), but that is literally all. I know they can hear, they will follow directions like no other. Now just SPEAK!

So those are my four short goals. I hope to get our kids outside in real snow for the first time tomorrow. Cross your fingers the weather is in our favor. Here's hoping your 2013 is off to a good start. Any new goals?

Morning Routine

Hi everyone,

Welcome to my first post as a guest blogger!  Steph has had her hands full with the trio, the holidays, and a nasty round of the stomach flu (ick)!  I thought I would help her out with a blog post.

I recently spent a week up in AK and boy have things changed.  No more boppies, no more bottles, no more leaving the room thinking the kiddos will be in the same place you left them when you come back!  Steph will say, what....that was ages ago, but it feels like just last time I was up there.

So, back to the theme of my post.  Morning routine.  I'm sure when Auntie Kim is there it's a bit different but it goes something like this:  Zach talking to himself in his crib, Auntie Kim peeking in, big smiles all the way around once Addie and Katie realize there is an adult in the room, Zach making dance moves in the crib ready for his am dance party, everyone with arms in the air wanting to get up.  Grab Zach in one arm Addie in the other and head downstairs.  Katie has her paci so she's happy being round two in the transport system.

We've all moved downstairs.  After a few minutes on the couch the activity begins.  New butts all the way  around, toys pulled out, books off shelves.  The day has begun.  Within 30 minutes or so it's time to do breakfast.  On this particular day we started with sippies of milk and Cheerios.  It looks something like this.

Addie's morning hair:

Katie brushing off the paparazzi:

Zach, the sweetest boy around:

Katie saying 'really Auntie Kim, really?!'

Finally, Addie just being cute:

This is just a small slice of life from the Slette home.  I love visiting and cannot wait to go back!
